Vanier College explores a DEC-BAC with Bishop’s University

Montreal, February 9, 2016.  Vanier College is pleased to announce that it  is currently studying the possibility of establishing a DEC-BAC partnership with Bishop’s University to streamline the passage of students from Vanier’s Environmental and Wildlife Management program into  the Biology: Biodiversity and Ecology Bachelor program at Bishop’s.

The advantage of DEC-BAC partnerships is the facilitation of entry by Cegep
graduates into various university Bachelor programs. In the case of the proposed Vanier-Bishop’s partnership, Bishop’s University would establish equivalencies in the Biology: Biodiversity and Ecology that  recognize certain courses taken by Vanier students in Environmental and Wildlife Management. In all, 14 courses and a total of 45 university credits would be attributed to Environmental and Wildlife Management graduates. As well, students admitted to Bishop’s with a final Cegep R-score of 28+ in the Environmental and Wildlife Management program would be eligible to receive an additional 9 credits in unassigned elective credits for a total of 54 advanced credits out of 120 required for a bachelor degree.

Such advanced credits is a tremendous boost to students at the university level and would reduce their university studies by one to two years.

“We are very excited about this new possibility for our graduating students,” said Quentin Van Ginhoven, coordinator of the Vanier Environmental and Wildlife Management Program. “At the moment, we have a partnership with the University of Cape Breton and Université de Montréal, but a DEC-BAC with Bishop’s University would be the first such relationship with an English university in Quebec and would be a great
advantage to our students. The idea and request to explore a partnership with Bishop’s actually came from some of our Environmental and Wildlife Management graduates who were applying for their bachelor studies. We are very happy that with this partnership we are able to provide them with what they need.”
