Vanier College to Hold Virtual Open House in Collaboration with LEARN

Montreal, February 14th 2018 -Vanier College’s Department of Communications is teaming up with LEARN (Leading Education And Resource Network) to hold an event entitled Demystifying the CEGEP Experience. The event will take the form of a virtual open house on Tuesday February 20th from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and will be broadcast on Facebook Live. It will feature Vanier employees highlighting different areas of the College, including the TASC and STEM Centres and Chemistry labs via their Smartphones to parents of Secondary 4 and Secondary 5 students living in rural areas of Quebec who want to learn more about CEGEP. Parents will be able to submit their questions in advance and the Vanier employees participating in the event will be able to respond to their queries in real time.

The virtual open house is a spin-off of an existing program already in place at Vanier called the High School Outreach Program, which uses videoconference sessions to discuss an array of topics to help inform high students about the experience of attending a college in a major urban centre like Montreal. The program is run in collaboration with LEARN, a non-profit organization whose mandate is to serve the educational needs of the public and private Anglophone and Indigenous youth and adult education sectors of Quebec. Some of the high schools participating in the program are located in areas such as New Richmond, the Laurentians and Joliette.
