John Abbott College Graduating Students Present a Media Arts Exhibit in West Island

From Friday, May 1st to Wednesday, May 6th, John Abbott College will host a public exhibit by graduating students in Creative Arts, Literature and Languages (CALL). The exhibit features Media Arts work by more than one hundred students graduating from the CALL program. Students have worked intensively on their projects for several months to create and develop an eclectic mix of films, animation, photography, creative writing, audio and video installations and documentaries of extraordinary quality. Some student works are inspired by the United Nations Millennium Development Goals, as 2015 is the target year agreed upon by the leaders of 140 nations to end extreme poverty in the world. Themes explored in the exhibit include extreme poverty, environmental sustainability, gender equality, the empowerment of women, and the prevention of HIV/AIDS. Other projects investigate ideas such as identity, revisit the human body through images and tell stories of loss. Several works critically reflect themes such as loneliness, depression and the struggles of becoming an adult in today’s consumer oriented society, while others propose alternatives to create a better world. The event takes place in the Agora of John Abbott College and admission is free. Everyone who would like to see the creations of these talented young artists and speak to them about their work is welcome. See you there!
