Art by the Lake

28-08-2014-The Lakeshore Artists Association (LAA) will be holding its annual fall exhibition September 6 and 7, on the magnificent grounds of the Stewart Hall Cultural Centre in Pointe Claire.

The LAA is once again teaming up with the John Abbott College Foundation (JACF) and will be donating a portion of the proceeds to the Foundation to help young artists in need of financial assistance. Over the years, LAA has raised over $1,000,000 for West Island charities through its exhibitions.

The event, titled "Art by the Lake" will take place from 10 am to 5 pm both days, rain or shine. The LAA is proud to be part of Stewart Hall's history, having shown annually on their grounds since 1960.

About 50 artists will participate, showing paintings, sculptures, and pottery. A raffle of two paintings, generously donated by long standing LAA artists Jill Graham and Bernard Marsy, will directly benefit JACF. Student artists will also be present.
As in the past, a tea room will be set up on the veranda overlooking the exhibition and the grounds of Stewart Hall.

A bit on our donating artists:

Jill Elizabeth Graham draws inspiration for her paintings from the children in her life. A grandmother five times over, she enjoys watching them play and tries to capture their spirit and excitement in paintings such as "A Perfect Windy Day", which shows a few children flying kites on a golden hillside. Jill paints on a textured surface, a technique she developed herself, and tries to establish a communication between the children in the painting. While inspired by children of today, Jill's paintings also refer back to memories of her own childhood. This gives the paintings a timeless, storybook feeling.
For Bernard Marsy, painting is always a search for the play of light. He finds inspiration in the beauty and colours of his surroundings - a backyard, a garden entrance, or house set back from the street - and directs our attention to details we tend to overlook in our daily lives. In "Scène d'Automne", shadows cast from trees rake across a green lawn in front of a cottage nestled into a hillside ablaze with fall colour.  An avid teacher of oil and acrylic painting, Bernard has amassed a loyal following of students over the last twenty years in and around the West Island.

"A Perfect Windy Day" and "Scène d'Automne” will be raffled off Sunday afternoon at the conclusion of the art show. Tickets may be purchased at the show. All proceeds will go to the John Abbott College Foundation to help art students in need of financial assistance.
