The Cégep de la Gaspésie et des Îles today announced a five-year student mobility agreement with several Montréal-area colleges

Gaspé, March 21, 2014. – The Cégep de la Gaspésie et des Îles today announced a five-year student mobility agreement with several Montréal-area colleges. Students from Vanier College, Cégep du Vieux-Montréal, Dawson College and John Abbott College will be able to take advantage of this partnership to come and study for a term in the English Sector at the Gaspé Campus.

As for the agreement’s specifics, the Cégep de la Gaspésie et des Îles will determine its host capacity every year and the Montréal-area colleges will potentially host an equal number of students. Should a college have fewer participants than its allowed number, those places will be open to students enrolled at the other colleges. The Montréal-area colleges will pay $2,000 per student participating in the project to cover the cost of residence accommodations and transportation between Gaspé and Montréal. As for the Cégep de la Gaspésie et des Îles, it will invest $15,000 per year to cover the project’s operating costs, and to provide support to the students and facilitate their success.  

Through this partnership, the Cégep de la Gaspésie et des Îles, has positioned itself in terms of student mobility and could ultimately become a pilot site for future projects introduced by the government.

It is important to point out that the Gaspé Campus is currently hosting 21 English-speaking mobility students. The foundation for this partnership was laid down with Vanier College in 2010, backed by funding obtained via the Canada-Québec Agreement. Beginning with four students from one college, the Cégep de la Gaspésie et des Îles now hosts some twenty students from four colleges, a highly positive development for the establishment.
